It's apology time. I owe a big apology to my sweet husband for the past 5 years of groaning about the fact that we share the exact same birthday (he is a year younger, but July 31 is ours to share). The thing is, you live most of your life not sharing your birthday (unless you are a twin), so suddenly sharing a day that was "yours" is an adjustment. But, it should be a painless adjustment. We do in fact enjoy celebrating each other on the same day. But man, do we groan about it to people when they find out that we share a birthday. They say "How cool!" and we say, "It's awful." I'd like to change that and instead be thankful that we share the same birthday!

With it being birthday week for my husband and I -- I wanted to take a moment to:
- Thank my husband for putting up with the idea that my birthday is more important than his for all these years (I may have even suggested he gives his up this year since I am turning 30...I know, I am awful!);
- Apologize for complaining to others about it. It IS SUPER special that we share the day;
- Reflect on how special it has been to share a birthday with my best friend!
In high school we had a joint birthday BBQ at Mukilteo beach. I remember chasing RJ down with a cupcake. Who would have thought that about 8 years later we would be engaged to be married and serving rainbow chip cupcakes at our wedding reception!
Our Birthday 2011 - Seafood on the water and a family and friends BBQ
P.S. Did anyone grow up with the "You are Special Today" Plate? Perhaps that is why I have had this selfish-mantra all this time?
P.S.S. Mom and Dad, my birthday selfishness issues are not at all your fault! Love you both!
Most importantly, THANK YOU RJ for being the BEST partner to share a birthday with! I love you!
