Happy Friday everyone! I don't know about you, but I am so thankful it is finally Friday! I hope you all enjoy your weekend!

We woke up to snow on the ground...so here is another edition of warmth in the winter. These spring like things (courtesy of pinterest) are keeping me going for now!
I aspire to be as good of baker as my dear friend Mim. She brought a version of this cake to work on Thursday and then I no joke , waited just two days to try to conquer my first "from scratch cake." This recipe is not for the faint of heart and I am currently on the search for a less involved recipe. But, this cake is to die for and worth your efforts! Enjoy!
DIRECTIONS:
I made my very first "from scratch" cake (recipe to follow ) this weekend! It was complicated, but incredibly relaxing, rewarding, and delicious! I also ran a 6 mile route along the Huron River at my favorite park! After two very unsuccessful outside runs, I was relieved to put in the miles on Saturday while enjoying nature (6 deer crossed the road right in front of me!) Even though it is still way to cold for March here in Michigan, I am making the most of it and that counts for something, right? Oh, and I got to spend time with Lauren, Ira, and RJ on Friday night. @ Isalita! Great company and to-die-for guacamole and chips. I love guacamole almost as much as I love Lauren and Ira. Happy new week to you, friends!
In my opinion, the best recipes come from friend recommendations and that involve the crockpot! These Pork Carnitas were amazing and recommended to me from Lauren! Now, I recommend them to all of you Mexican food and meat lovers! My only advice is a little less salt!
I really, really hope that this is the final addition of my "Warmth in the Winter" series. Today is officially the final day of winter per the Farmer's Almanac and in Ann Arbor today it felt like Spring. It was raining, the ground is really showing itself and I didn't have to wear a down jacket, scarf, or gloves. Yes! I really hope I don't have to see below 20 degree weather again until the end of 2014! Bring on the rainy days (and sunshine). Happy Spring to all of you! (all photos courtesy of Pinterest).
I worked over the weekend to try to catch up on things as the next 7-10 weeks at the Ford School will be fun chaos. I am a salary employee, so technically I can work beyond my 40 hours and not get paid for it. It is discouraged at my place of business to do so, but there was something so great about coming in on Saturday morning and getting a ton done...uninterrupted! It was not a bad way to spend my Saturday. I also got to meet my Ann Arbor Biff (nickname for Lauren) at Sava's for lunch afterwards, which was a great reward! Bottom line, I don't mind working on the weekend once in awhile, because I am in a job that is my career. It is not just a job, but a place where I receive huge personal fulfillment--and I don't feel bad about this. It is such a gift! What are your thoughts on working "over-time" and finding a job vs. career? (pictures courtesy of pinterest). For 29 years of my life I have only eaten eggs one way: scrambled. Then I tried deviled eggs, fried eggs, baked (over a roasted-garlic potato dish..which I loved), sunny-side up over french fries at Aventura, and last night I made my very first hard-boiled eggs for a Cobb salad. My favorite is fried over anything (fries, toast, potatoes, and so much more). I know fried isn't the healthiest and I should probably still eat scrambled egg whites from time to time, but I can't help but love dipping my toast in the runny yolk of a quality egg! What is your favorite way to cook eggs?
Straight from The Detroit Press--"today Ann Arbor breaks snowfall record" (6 inches today and 92.1 inches of snow total this winter season). I am still dreaming of spring and warmer days to come (all pictures below courtesy of: pinterest.)
