I joined a soccer league in Ann Arbor and it starts tonight! I haven't played soccer in about 14 years, but I am excited to get out there and kick some shins and channel my 10 year-old, fearless self. I intend to spend my breaks today reviewing the rules of the game so that I don't look like a complete idiot tonight. I joined a league for two reasons: 1) to make new Ann Arbor friends and 2) to get some outdoor exercise. I am excited and nervous to take on this new goal of mine! (photos courtesy of Pinterest).

Since 2007, I have wanted to do a half marathon. I have tried training on three other occasions--each time resulting in an injury. With my 30th birthday in July, I was determined to finally do a half marathon. I paid for it right away and decided injury-or-no-injury, I would compete. But, it was not a competition for me--I just wanted to finish! Oddly enough, I selected a trail run as my first half marathon thinking the scenery in Michigan doesn't include major hills. My friend Cliff (shown below) and I both thought the hills would be minor. Oh, how we were wrong! These hills were not for the weak of hips or ankles. It was a very fun and intense experience, but I finished and I felt proud. I am thankful for all the friends and family who have supported me these past few months as I trained and for the chocolate muffin I was able to consume after the race. My half marathon is tomorrow and let's just say that I am going to wing it a bit because of my recent bout of laryngitis and asthmatic cough. It should be fun though and I am excited to reach my goal of "finishing". Have a great weekend ya'll!
The sun and warmth has finally arrived in Ann Arbor and you can tell the people here are thrilled! I spent as much time as I could outside this past weekend, with lots of visits to the dog park. I am also simultaneously reading two non-fiction books- My Life in France (meant to finish this months ago) and One More Thing. It is refreshing to flip from Julia Child's culinary adventures in Paris to B.J. Novak's sarcastic and random short stories. I spent Saturday evening with my Ann Arbor bestie, Lauren. We had pistachios, skinny pop, and wine and watched the most depressing film with brilliant acting--August: Osage County. On Sunday, we went to our Church and made Easter brunch with our neighbor-friends--who are actually more like family. It is a huge blessing to have a couple to do life here in Ann Arbor together. I really miss home and spending holidays with my family, but knowing we have "family" here is a huge gift.

I'm back! I took about 3 weeks off from the blog to get through one of the busiest work seasons in Higher Education. It is still busy over the next two-three weeks, but I am feeling the need to use this space to share what I am thankful for and to have a creative outlet again. What better day to return to a blog than on Friday!
