The Weekend: Andrea's White Coat Ceremony
07-28-14
This weekend was all about family as we celebrated Andrea receiving her white coat and celebrating her new life in Ann Arbor as a dental student. RJ's parents and grandparents joined us for the weekend and it was so fun to have them here and introduce them to Zingerman's Roadhouse, Frita Batidos, and Slow's BBQ! The grandparents left this morning and his parents left yesterday for a short tour of Sleeping Bear Dunes area and will return tomorrow night! It is birthday week for RJ and I, and this year RJ is making the birthday plans. We then head to Niagara on Friday with his parents and I can't wait! Thank you in advance to RJ for sharing his birthday with my 30th! Have a good week everyone!
Sharing a Birthday With Your Spouse
07.29.14
It's apology time. I owe a big apology to my sweet husband for the past 5 years of groaning about the fact that we share the exact same birthday (he is a year younger, but July 31 is ours to share). The thing is, you live most of your life not sharing your birthday (unless you are a twin), so suddenly sharing a day that was "yours" is an adjustment. But, it should be a painless adjustment. We do in fact enjoy celebrating each other on the same day. But man, do we groan about it to people when they find out that we share a birthday. They say "How cool!" and we say, "It's awful." I'd like to change that and instead be thankful that we share the same birthday!
With it being birthday week for my husband and I -- I wanted to take a moment to:
In high school we had a joint birthday BBQ at Mukilteo beach. I remember chasing RJ down with a cupcake. Who would have thought that about 8 years later we would be engaged to be married and serving rainbow chip cupcakes at our wedding reception!
With it being birthday week for my husband and I -- I wanted to take a moment to:
- Thank my husband for putting up with the idea that my birthday is more important than his for all these years (I may have even suggested he gives his up this year since I am turning 30...I know, I am awful!);
- Apologize for complaining to others about it. It IS SUPER special that we share the day;
- Reflect on how special it has been to share a birthday with my best friend!

Our Birthday 2011 - Seafood on the water and a family and friends BBQ
P.S. Did anyone grow up with the "You are Special Today" Plate? Perhaps that is why I have had this selfish-mantra all this time?
P.S.S. Mom and Dad, my birthday selfishness issues are not at all your fault! Love you both!
Most importantly, THANK YOU RJ for being the BEST partner to share a birthday with! I love you!

Andrea is University of Michigan bound!

My sister-in-law got into University of Michigan's dental school! She will be joining us here in Ann Arbor, MI in June and I couldn't be more excited for her, the family, and for me! She is a sister and a close friend, and I am so excited to have someone I love join RJ and I on this Ann Arbor- U-M dental school adventure. Congrats, Andrea! We are so proud of you and can't wait to see you in June!

Proud Wife
11.19.13
It took RJ three application rounds to get into dental school. The first round was before we were dating and he kinda gave up on the dream. Then we got married and I had a moment early on in our marriage where I realized I wasn't fully supporting him in his goals, which was part of our vows. I didn't want to move away from our home. I didn't want to move to a new place, make new friends, find a different job, and miss out on the life happening in Seattle.
Today, I can say confidently that I am so glad I rallied with RJ and we are here, in Michigan, living our dreams. He is working his butt off in Dental School and I love my new job. We have made new friends and we even enjoy this city that God so clearly had in mind for us. I finally feel more present here than I have since we moved here in June 2012. RJ has already served in so many leadership roles and today he starts serving on the University of Michigan Student Advisory Budget Committee! I am so impressed by my husband. I am constantly inspired by his ambitions, leadership, and service to those around him. Such a proud and thankful wife!

TBT: Zoe as a Puppy
11.14.13
We got Zoe for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We left a very fun New Years Eve cabin getaway to go see if we wanted to take her home. We hadn't even planned on getting a dog yet since we lived in an apartment. Our friends were fostering her after she was rescued from a kill shelter. The moment we saw her, we knew we had to take her home! By the time we got home, nothing was open to buy her a bed so we all slept on the floor together as a new family. It is one of my favorite memories of our special pup.
Zoe's Characteristics : Britney Spaniel-German/Short-haired Pointer, just over 3 years old, talkative (sings more than barks), cuddly, stinky breath, spunky, people lover, paper eater, bed hogger, obedient (most of the time), loving, so stinking cute, spoiled, and the best part of our little family.

TBT: The Engagement
11.07.13
Proposal: Newport Beach, Oregon on 06.07.08!
We were on a "road trip" to move him back to Seattle after a 9 month masters degree stint for him in Arizona. He had convinced me weeks prior that he wasn't going to propose until he found a job, so needless to say I was super surprised. The setting was perfect. Although, we almost missed the sunset because I was caught behind a slow driver while RJ was apparently in the passenger seat losing his you know what. It was also freezing so RJ's knee-down position was more of a lunge.
But it was amazing! We were definitely on top of the world afterwards! We even went to a grocery store and bought a bottle opener and a bottle of wine to toast. Cheers to this tbt, to my sweet engagement, and to my hubby of almost 5 years!

13 years ago (in 2000), I was "RJ Price" for Halloween! We were just friends, but clearly I was onto something!

Blogging and Being a Price
10.11.13
Welcome to my new blog! This is most likely my 5th...well maybe 6th attempt to start a blog. Before I committed to starting a new one, I spent time reflecting on why my past blogs have failed. I think it may be because I end up doing anything but spending time reflecting and documenting the things in my life that make me happy and thankful. It is much easier to play Words with Friends or watch anything you can on Hulu for countless hours then it is to sit down for 5 minutes and reflect. I also find it so much more enjoyable to read other (cooler) blogs (some of whom make a blogger living) than to create my own. But, I am finding an urge to have a creative outlet and after my friend shared her blog with me I felt sudden inspiration to start virtually recording my life again.
Today's post will be simple; I love being a Price. I married RJ almost 5 years ago and life has definitely been exciting! I would be lying to you if I didn't tell you that exciting also means getting through some more challenging moments or experiencing the coldest feet you have ever felt on your feet in the bed. But, overall being a Price is in fact one of the best adventures of my life. |
