Winter in Michigan is long, but in general, when it gets darker and colder out people struggle to stay mindful and happy. I know I personally struggle when the season of winter starts. Wearing heavy coats, walking the dog in the dark, and not being able to take full breaths outside all get to my head. I thought it would be helpful for me to reflect on some quick tricks to help prepare my mind for winter, and I wanted to share the ideas to whomever may come across my blog.
1. Have an attitude of gratitude - choose three things to be grateful for when your mind drifts towards negativity. 2. Re-frame the negativity - when you are starting to feel extra negative, find ways to be positive instead. 3. Create space - allow yourself to feel down, but make sure that you are in a safe place to express those feelings. 4. Set goals - having goals to work towards can help your mind focus on something other than winter. 5. Be mindful of others - people's perspectives about winter are bound to rub off onto you - so have a mind- protection plan. 6. Plan an adventure - having adventures and activities to look forward to can help our mind have hope and engaging in play re-centers our mind too! |
Happy Winter, ya'll! It is a good season to be grateful for what we have and to practice focusing on relationships, goals, and positive aspects of our life!
